You're Welcome.

To achieve democracy in Iraq we must first suppress all dissent. We seek a Revolution and must naturally kill the revolutionaries. We promise the good citizens of Iraq a Utopia born of radical change...excuse us while we kill the radicals. Shhh. The president is having a dream, don't wake him. His pillow of downy incence cradles a wealth of good posture, and we all are the better for it. This restful despot asks only that we embrace his militant gifts: the democracy of obedience, it's retail Olympus, and the march of idiot reapers.
Thanks.

Well written. Of course, it helps that I agree completely with the sentiment - no, anger, not sentiment - behind the post. It reads in a very poetic way. Have you written poems? What if you took this post and did some rejigging of the lines, some refinement? It's just I think you've got the makings of a political poem in there - poems having once been political as par for the course, and influential upon kings and the general populace back in the days before Christianity spread out across the world. Poems had power. I love so many of the words you put together - 'retail Olympus', 'the march of idiot reapers' and 'cradles a wealth of good posture. Nice, angry stuff. Anger works when it has purpose. It's not a bad thing.

Hi Andy, thanks. I've tried many, many times to put a poem together, I haven't quite got the knack for it yet. I hadn't thought of trying it with this section though, I will definately work on it a bit. I'm just glad you agree with the sentiment, people tend to be a bit touchy about this sort of thing, I never know what sort of reactions to expect. Anyway, it's good to hear from you, take care...

Word of advice on poetry, feel free to reject completely if not desired! I think poetry is something people often don't realise they could do easily if they were able to find a way to send the inner critic packing for a while because it always, always wants to play it safe and is trying to protect - but in the end, more often than not, it simply inhibits. The advice is this: think of comparisons when writing (don't think metaphor and the like, because trying to do that can be off-putting - just think comparisons) and focus on things that matter, things that arouse emotion - be that political anger or personal love and so on. Then write without thinking of line breaks. Just write a paragraph to begin with, like your post on Iraq. Then take a look at what you wrote and start chipping at it, like a sculptor, putting in line breaks where you want them, not where you think they should go in an intellectual sense. Just break it up where you want the emphases and see what you get.

Example, just to make the point in a silly way:

    write without thinking
line breaks - no, write a paragraph
    like your post
on Iraq - take a look
    start chipping
    sculptor-like
    break it up
    see what you get

Not the world's best poem - probably file under 'bizarre' but I hope in some small way it's helpful. I kind of make it my mission to bring poetry out in people who clearly have it inside.

Take care, my friend. Enjoy your blog a lot.

By the way, for Furious George comments, see one of the recent posts on my blog about the man having a wire up his back during the first presidential debate. If Nixon were around today, he'd be top of the polls! How people's tolerances of political criminality have changed. And Clinton got censured over a blowjob! What gives, I ask? I simply do not understand how crazy the world can be.

I grieved for your nation when he was elected and I pray fervently that he follows in the footsteps of his father in having one term only. Then he can go see his friends in Saudi, which'd be nice. I bet he'd like that. :-)

Andy, you have an amazingly concise way of explaining things, thank you for the poetry break down. Are you teaching somewhere? If not, you must, you've got the knack for it.
As for Bush, he has been a disaster but unfortunately he will likely be around for another four years. It'll be close, but ultimately the race will go to the person most willing to lie and manipulate, and clearly Bush gets the edge there. Maybe I should move your way for awhile, we're heading towards a dark, dark age here. Anyway, take care Andy, it's good to hear from you...
