The CIA Killed
...the democratically elected leader of Chile in 1970, as well as the democratically elected leader in Guatemala in the early 50's. In the case of Chile, we actually installed a brutal dictator named Pinochet who made Hussein look like the pope by comparison.
After the terrorist attacks of 2001 absolutely nothing changed in this country. It has been business as usual ever since. Preemptive military action is not new. It is a long standing policy that has simply received a public unveiling. The Bush Doctrine, in other words, could be more accurately described as the CIA doctrine. It has been used for more than 50 years and most of the time it's stated goal has been to suppress democracy. This latter statement is not an opinion, by the way, it's a matter of public record. Read just about any declassified utterance by Kissinger. He virtually had a 20 year love affair with Pinochet, even after he murdered more than 200,00 of his own people.
Anyway Iraq: good luck with those upcoming elections.

There is an argument to be made that Bush is an honest bastard when set against, say, Nixon, who was a dishonest bastard. Both lie but one pretended to be telling the truth while the other does no such thing. One was confident he could fool the American people and was, eventually, proved wrong; the other is confident he can fool the American people and they will be happy for him to do so because they know they're being fooled but don't want to face the truth. One bent over and said 'lick my ass' and the people went 'yuck'; the other bends over and says 'lick my ass' and over fifty percent of the people say 'oooh yummy, pass the sauce and praise the Lord for this tasty butt'.
I'm left wondering if somewhere in all that, Bush comes out better or if it's simply that the American people who voted for one or the other come out worse...
