Election Day

Allright, back in town now, was out visiting family for a few days. Arrived a few hours before the polls opened, so I unpacked, had my green tea and then...voted. Against Bush, not so much for Kerry. Kerry seems fairly bland, but he isn't surrounded by the Dr. Strangelove characters that make up the Bush administration. It's turning out closer than I would have expected, but I'm still conviced of a solid electoral win for Bush.
This weekend was nice because the Independent Film Channel had an Italian horror film marathon, with stuff by Bava and Argento (where was the Fulci?). American films are so incestuous, taking their themes from popular tastes and borrowing one anothers styles in bland, repetetive fashion. Italian horror films, on the other hand, take their inspiration from trashy pulp novels and classic opera, it's an interesting hybrid. Much more vibrant than anything we have here. We've got Romero, and thats about it. If I get a chance I'll go see Shaun of the Dead later today, I'm excited about it.
What else? Mostly I've been watching election coverage, too much of it, it's been my junk food for the past week or so. Today, though, I'm shutting out the news and going to bed about 2p.m. When I wake up tonight I'll just listen to music and maybe read for awhile. I'll learn about the elections at about 5a.m. when I walk up the street for a newspaper, I won't be in the mood for bad news until then. I'll be attempting to mentally prepare myself, lot's of tea and breathing exercises. Hoo.

You watch films that aren't American and you drink tea which isn't an American drink. You'll be telling us you sleep with other guys next! Or maybe you can look at Arabs without turning to stone. My god! Someone send a member of the Republican SS over to this man's house now and sort him out!

Get hold of a film called Saving Grace if you can. It's gentle but it will make you laugh and you need to laugh right now. It's also very British which is no bad thing when it comes to classic film-making, Plus it's about drugs and old ladies who grow them and take them. Woo-hoo! Subversive....

Think I'll pass on the Passion. If I want to see Jim Caviezel suffer for two hours I'll watch the film he did with Jennifer Lopez, Angel Eyes. Yikes.
