Losing Perspective
Here is a quote from Iraq's interim prime minister, Ayad Allawi:
“We are entering a new era of our history and all Iraqis — whether they voted or not — should stand side by side to build their future”
This is the preview for tonights Brit Hume show on Fox News: "With Iraqi voter turnout stronger than expected, 'Team Washington' lets you know if it's a true victory for president Bush"
Allawi seeks a unified Iraq. Republicans seek only to cheapen events in Iraq in order to score political points. For them, it's not about Iraq at all, it's about a "victory" for Bush. This is why the pressure has to stay on these arrogant weasels: their desperate whitewashing needs stop, and Bush, at some point, has to state a policy for Iraq that makes sense. "Freedom good"...that's a bumper sticker, not a foreign policy.
To remind everyone what this should be about, here is a quote from the Associated Press, clearly a corrupt and biased organization filled with anti-American liberals:
"Pushed in wheelchairs or carts if they couldn't walk, the elderly, the young and women in veils cast ballots in Iraq's first free election in a half century...the mere fact the vote went off seemed to ricochet instantly around a world hoping for Arab democracy."

The following is from an article in today's Guardian (UK):
"......On September 4 1967 the New York Times published an upbeat story on presidential elections held by the South Vietnamese puppet regime at the height of the Vietnam war. Under the heading 'US encouraged by Vietnam vote: Officials cite 83% turnout despite Vietcong terror', the paper reported that the Americans had been 'surprised and heartened' by the size of the turnout 'despite a Vietcong terrorist campaign to disrupt the voting'. A successful election, it went on, 'has long been seen as the keystone in President Johnson's policy of encouraging the growth of constitutional processes in South Vietnam'. The echoes of this weekend's propaganda about Iraq's elections are so close as to be uncanny........"
It seems that what goes round, comes around.
