Romero

George A. Romero is the director behind the Night of the Living Dead films. His new zombie movie, Land of the Dead, is out today. I was reading an Associated Press interview with him and loved one of his answers. What does Romero most fear in the post 9-11 world?

“It’s the neighbors, man. That’s the scariest thing in life, the neighbors."

Anyway. He's great, and if you avoid zombie films atleast watch Dawn of the Dead (the original, not the ungodly remake)...the satire in it is brilliant. Thanks!

Matt, you are right on! If you like seeing heads exploding like light bulbs, helicopter blades gradually slicing heads off bit by bit, and bikers having their intestines eaten while they are still alive and screaming... then man, the original "Dawn Of The Dead" is a masterpiece. The scene where the beergut rednecks are out hunting zombies is a hoot. The "Flyboy" character is such a wuss, too.

I have copies of it and of the original "Night Of The Living Dead", also a masterpiece in my opinion. I didn't think the third installment in the original trilogy was all that great, but the first two are must-see.

Day of the Dead was definitely disappointing. But on Friday I watched a double feature of Night and Dawn, then on Saturday I went out and saw the new one. It was really a lot of fun...not as good as the first two, but much better than Day. It was just nice to finally see Romero working with an actual budget, the detail on the zombies was amazing. But it's the social satire that sets his films apart.

"The "Flyboy" character is such a wuss, too."

Almost every white character is obnoxious, I love how he constantly attacks the suburban mindset. Funny stuff.
