Verbal Darwinism

As much as I love puppet shows, the rhetorical Punch and Judy going on in Washington is getting a bit stale. Making statements, saying nothing, repeating the process...it just seems like a very convenient way for politicans to avoid the serious problems they've created. To recap:

ROUND 1

Republicans: "Let's go to war with Iraq."

Democrats: "Why?"

R: "Gasp! We are offended!"

D: "We sincerely apologize. Let's go to war with Iraq."

ROUND 2

R: "There are no problems of any kind in Iraq. Also, Democrats are facists."

D: "What?! Well, your'e facists."

R: "Gasp! We are offended!"

D: "We sincerely apologize. There are no problems in Iraq."

ROUND 3

R: "The insurgency is in it's final throes...and Democrats are Nazis."

D: "Whoa, hold up. Republicans are the Nazis."

R: "Hmmm...we'll see your Goebbels and raise you an Eichmann."

D: "Allright, in that case...Bush is Hitler."

R: "Gasp! We are offended!"

D: "We sincerely apologize. Iraq is a magical wonderland of peaceful democracy."

Rinse.
