Here is a fascinating article from Rolling Stone about one of the chief propogandists behind the invasion of Iraq. Yes, Rolling Stone sucks, but this is a great article about information management and the manipulation of perception.

Hey Stone has some great (well in most cases good) articles. Mind you i'm a guy who thought that Vanity fair was a chic mag, great, great articles (honestly get a subscription).

Great article. I'll pass it one!!
Good that it is in the Rolling Stone, but I think it needs to be in something even more mainstream, such as Time Magazine. Something that would show up in doctor's offices.

Actually, RS does have some good article, but, like Dadahead said, they're never about the music. Worst Magazine Ever Award: Spin.
I'm with you Sheryl, I wish more news organizations would pick up on basic stories like this...psyops being used in the US...not a surprise, but newsworthy to say the least.

Spin. The only Spin magazine I have heard of was a table tennis magazine, but I imagine you are talking about a different publication. X-)
Good and bad magazines...Hmmmm...I like Electronic Musician, but they aren't very good about covering Washington politics. Go figure.

The New Yorker is ok, I guess. For the worst award, there are just too many to choose from.
I actually subscribed to the Nation earlier this year and was rather disappointed. I thought it was going to be an informative, progressive magazine. Instead, it bordered on left-wing propaganda. I am pretty darned left wing, but it was mostly opinions, and some of the "facts" were just plain wrong. I hate it when my side distorts facts.
Like one article said that all the big cities in the US voted for Kerry, or maybe they said only one didn't. Well, I live in Texas, and I can say without a doubt that Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio went red. And that's just one state. So I thought, they aren't doing a great job of screening their articles here.

Yes, the Rolling Stone article about the manufacturing of consent for the Iraq invasion was indeed interesting - at least as interesting as the article on Boron

I let my subscription to RS lapse a number of years ago, and I will be letting my current subscription to Spin lapse as well. For me, Magnet is about the only music magazine I really feel I need. It features a lot of reviews about independent artists, and if you subscribe, you get a free sampler CD of good music by people you have probably never heard of! Fun stuff! It comes out six times a year.
For what it's worth, I also subscribe to Free Inquiry (a secular humanist magazine), Discover (science), Mental Floss (trivia), and two birdwatchers' magazines, Wildbird and Birders' World. Hey come on, birds ARE cool!!
